The anode part of the battery is where the oxidation takes place since it is the electrode part of the battery. The eternal circuit under this part of the battery is fed all the electrons. The cathode part of the battery is the part where the reduction takes place. If we were to take a look at the anatomy of the batteries, the cathode is generally known as the positive electrode while the anode is known as the negative electrode. The electrolyte of the battery refers to the medium through which the transportation of ions takes place thereby completing an electrical circuit. The electrodes can be comprised either of gaseous, solid or liquid materials.

The Making Of Lithium Ion Batteries



There are several different elements that comprise the li-ion battery materials. It is crucial to understand the working of different materials in order to understand how the lithium ion battery works as a whole.


  • 1. Cathode: Cathode consists of different materials such as cathode, foils and binder active materials. This is one of the most important components of a lithium ion battery.
  • 2. Copper foils: This is quite an important part that makes up the anode of the battery. It is with the copper foils that it is able to collect the entire anode in the lithium ion batteries.
  • 3. Electrolyte solution: A basic component of the li-ion battery, this is comprised of the lithium hexafluorophosphate salts. This plays a crucial role in transporting the positive lithium ions from cathode part of the battery to the anode part of the battery.
  • 4. Pouch cells: Composed of superior quality materials these are needed for making the life of the lithium ion batteries longer.
  • 5. Separators: The battery separators are optimized in order to be used during the manufacturing process of the battery.


Other than all these batteries also consist of anode materials comprising graphene, activated carbon et cetera.
